State SHRM Legislative Chair Mark Hudson will provide a topical legal and legislative update that will impact Human Reources Professionals.

Mike Staebell of the Dickinson Law Firm, formerly with the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor will be doing a presentation on Wage and Hour Updates. 

WHD has been very busy with final rule on the new salary test for white collar exempt employees, proposed rules on tipped employee regulations, plus joint employment and the FLSA 'regular rate' in computing overtime. WHD has also issued a number of helpful Opinion Letters, which Mike will summarize for us.

Two significant trends are affecting the human resources function. First, the US is rapidly transforming into a knowledge-based economy which greatly increases the need for a properly skilled and effectively deployed workforce.  Second, many day-to-day tactical HR functions can now be outsourced making more time available for strategic contribution. These two trends present an opportunity for HR to transform their role into a strategic partner helping chart the organization’s course for growth and improvement.
