Topic: Internal investigations
Speaker: Fran Haas
Overview: The internal investigation process has developed into a critical tool to manage a multitude of legal and personnel risks in the workplace. They have also begun to be heavily scrutinized by the courts, civil rights agencies, and employment lawyers looking to file a claim. In this program, Fran, a seasoned workplace investigator, will share a number of practical tips and processes to ensure that your internal investigations comply with best practices and evolving legal standards. Her program will draw on real-world examples to provide a meaningful context for attendees.
Fran routinely handles a full range of complex issues for employers and management. Whether she consults through a phone call, conducts in-person training, or reviews policies or anticipated employee terminations, she’s with the client from start to finish. Her twenty-one years of experience includes deep knowledge and expertise on disability discrimination, the accommodation process, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, the Family and Medical Leave Act, equal pay, and wrongful termination. She negotiates collective bargaining agreements on behalf of management, as well as other labor disputes. Fran’s cases often involve difficult facts—facts that she understands make people uncomfortable. “There are certain ways to handle cases that have delicate issues, and it often requires a soft touch and a lot of nuance,” she says.
