There is a direct and measurable relationship between employee engagement and an organization’s success.
Employees who know that they are working towards goals that drive business outcomes, as well as their own goals for professional growth and learning, develop ownership in the organization’s success that boosts employee engagement.
Understanding the organization’s goals and individuals’ jobs is the first step in creating effective goals. The right goals help employees understand how their behaviors align with performance objectives. When an employee helps create their goals, they are most likely to buy into and feel a motivation-enhancing sense of ownership for them.
Defining goals and how to measure them is the next step. There are different types of goals and different ways to measure results. Understanding those differences is key to successful goal creation and continuing management.
Ongoing coaching provides the communication necessary to keep goals on track, make course adjustments as necessary, and collect and review feedback that is incorporated into a performance review process.
Visibility of goals and their progress is critical. Objectives that are visible stay top of mind. Connecting them to appropriate scorecards and dashboards provides an interactive way for everyone to see what’s underway and where things stand.
Join Joe Rotella to connect the dots from organization goals to job descriptions to individual goals, learn the different goals types and measures, and see how ongoing coaching and feedback leads to a more effective performance review process.
