    Objectives:

     

    The emphasis will be to enhance and improve one’s perspective and strategies with regard to working with difficult people at work. Upon completion of this course the participants will be able to:

     

    1. Understand the root causes of why people can be “difficult” and discover how to address the root causes.

    2. Learn techniques for changing one’s approach and responses to “difficult” behaviors from others.

      3.   Discover strategies to work effectively with “difficult” people.

      4.   Learn to use humor in such a way as to lower stress and diffuse the “difficulty” in the situation.

       

      Course Description:

       

      On June 10, 2014, Vaness (pronounced “Venise”) Oden, M.A. will present a one-hour session to the local SHRM group entitled, “Coping With Difficult People.” This is not just another “self-help” seminar, but rather an opportunity to learn strategies to counteract difficult people and development new perspectives for situations at work. Vaness will incorporate humor as well as hands on activities to learn these techniques.

       

    Speaker Bio

     

    For over twenty years Midwest audiences have been captivated by the presentations of Vaness Oden. An inspirational speaker and trainer, Vaness’s background in business and academics has prepared her to meet the needs of a diverse clientele.

     

    In the past, Vaness was named “Woman Entrepreneur” of the year by the Iowa Small Business Development Center in Ames, Iowa. Vaness has a Master of Arts Degree in English and Communications from Truman State University. She has held various positions in education, management, consulting, and marketing.

     

    Despite her busy training schedule, Vaness is also pursued for her business advisement and consulting expertise, especially on issues of employee motivation and conduct. Vaness has pioneered individual coaching techniques that have greatly enhanced employee performance in her client companies.

     

     Vaness is a highly sought after motivational speaker and seminar presenter. People from all walks of life appreciate her humorous and informative style.

     

    Vaness is married to Steve Widmar and they reside in the Exline, Iowa area  Both Vaness and Steve enjoy their 80-acre farm by spending as much time as possible; hunting, fishing, hiking, clearing trails, and planting food plots for wildlife.
